Indian Football Team: Despite losing by a big margin against Brazil and Uruguay, the Indian football team has maintained its position in the FIFA Men’s World Ranking. Khalid Jamil’s team is at number 138 in the latest list published on October 7. Back-to-back losses against two strong teams during the September-October international break raised questions about India’s performance, but a draw against Panama helped prevent a drop in the rankings. As a result, despite the disappointing results on the field, the Indian team has not changed its place in the list.
India get a draw against Panama
India faced Panama in the first match of the international break. Both teams drew that match 1-1. Ryan Williams scored the first goal for India. However, Panama equalized with Omar Valencia’s goal. The draw against a relatively higher ranked opponent was crucial for India. In the next two matches, the Blue Tigers were able to maintain their position in the FIFA list thanks to the results obtained against Panama, despite losing by a large margin to Brazil and Uruguay.
A four-goal loss to Brazil
India tried to put up resistance early against five-time world champions Brazil. But Carlo Ancelotti’s team gradually took control of the match. Brazil won 4-0 thanks to goals from Estevao and Pedro as well as a brace from Samuel Lino. The Indian defense struggled for some time but ultimately could not handle the onslaught of a strong opponent. The gap between the Indian team’s defense and attack also became evident in this match.
Bigger blow against Uruguay
After losing against Brazil, India could not turn around against Uruguay. At the beginning of the match, Darwin Nunez put Uruguay ahead by scoring from the penalty spot. However, India equalized with Aniruddha Thapa’s goal. At that moment there was hope to return to the fight, but later Uruguay took full control of the match. In the end, the South American team won 6-1. Such heavy losses in two consecutive matches have raised fresh questions about Indian football’s ability to compete at the international level.
A big jump in the rankings is Rayander
Ryanda has made the most significant improvement in the latest rankings. They climbed nine places to 119 thanks to good results during the international break. In case of India, however, the picture is different. A draw against Panama left the standings unchanged, but results against Brazil and Uruguay highlighted the team’s need for improvement. Moving up in the rankings requires good results against strong opposition as well as regular wins against teams of comparable stature.
Spain is at the top, Argentina is second
Spain has retained the top spot in the FIFA rankings. Argentina is in second place. France and England are in third and fourth place respectively. India still has a long gap with these powerful teams in world football. However, India should try to reduce that gap through consistency, proper team selection and better preparation in international matches. Strengthening the defense and increasing efficiency in attack is essential, especially after big losses against Brazil and Uruguay.
The challenge to turn around
While holding on to 138 in the FIFA rankings is a relief for India for the time being, recent results cannot be ignored. A draw against Panama highlighted the positives, but losses against Brazil and Uruguay highlighted the team’s weaknesses. The challenge now for Khalid Jamil is to learn from this experience and make the team more competitive. In order to improve in international football, it is not enough to just maintain the ranking, India has to show consistent progress in the field performance as well.
