India-Iran Relations: Trade will increase between India and Iran, President Pezeshkian gave a big signal to PM Modi

There was a special phone conversation between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this conversation, both the leaders discussed further strengthening the relations between India and Iran and increasing mutual cooperation. President Pezeshkian said that the two countries have many opportunities to work together.

Emphasis on strengthening relationships

President Pezheshkian praised the efforts of PM Modi and said that India is doing a lot for peace and regional cooperation. He said that relations between Iran and India are very old and there has been mutual respect between the two countries. The President talked about increasing cooperation in areas like political, economic, trade and transit.

Discussion on BRICS and energy

During the talks, participation of Iran and India in the framework of BRICS was also discussed. The President expressed happiness over India’s successful hosting of the BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting. Prime Minister Modi also invited President Pezeshkian to attend the upcoming BRICS Leaders Summit to be held in India.

  • Energy Cooperation: In the meeting held on June 26, 2026, there was discussion on increasing cooperation in the field of oil and gas.
  • Business: Iranian oil exports are expected to increase after the agreement between America and Iran.
  • Peace Effort: Iran reiterated its commitment to end the war and maintain peace in the region.

Regional peace and security

Prime Minister Modi welcomed the understanding reached in West Asia and said that India has always been in favor of resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy. He emphasized on securing the freedom of trade and movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

President Pezeshkian mentioned an agreement (MoU) with America. He said that this decision has been taken in coordination with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and until the conditions of this MoU are met, Iran will not hold further talks.
