India thrash Zimbabwe by 90 runs: Ishan Kishan, Tilak Verma shine, Yash Thakur makes debut

IND vs ZIM 2nd T20I: India won the 2nd T20 match between India and Zimbabwe by 90 runs. Batting first after losing the toss, the Indian team made a strong score of 219 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Chasing a target of 220 runs in reply, the entire Zimbabwean team was bowled out for 129 runs. The Indian bowlers got off to a great start and took a strong hold on the match by gathering the 3 main batsmen of Zimbabwe in the powerplay. Half of Zimbabwe’s team had returned to the pavilion with a score of just 65 runs.

Brilliant bowling from debutant Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav

Young fast bowler Yash Thakur, playing his first T20 international, gave India the first breakthrough. He took the first wicket of his international career by dismissing the dangerous looking Brian Bennett. Bennett scored 32 runs in 19 balls with the help of 3 fours and 3 sixes. Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi then decimated Zimbabwe’s middle order. Prince Yadav dismissed Ben Curran for just 1 run (5 balls), while Ravi Bishnoi clean bowled Dion Meyers for a personal score of 12 runs (9 balls, 2 fours). Zimbabwe captain and star all-rounder Sikandar Raza also fell prey to Prince Yadav for nil. The entire Zimbabwean team was reduced to 129 runs looking helpless against the Indian onslaught.

India’s opening and performance of the openers

Earlier, Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl first. India made one change to their playing XI with Yash Thakur replacing Ashok Sharma. Opener Abhishek Sharma started aggressively in the first over, but he could not give his innings a big shape and was dismissed for just 8 runs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi then scored quick runs in the third over of the innings, hitting 3 fours and 1 six, but he too was caught out for 20 off 9 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer scored 25 runs off 20 balls and was dismissed by Brian Bennett.

Ishaan Kishan and Tilak Verma’s Naughty Fifty

After 3 wickets fell quickly, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma took over the Indian innings. An important and aggressive partnership of 94 runs was registered between the two batsmen in 43 balls. Ishan Kishan played a storming innings of 81 runs off just 44 balls, in which he hit all four corners of the ground. On the other hand, Tilak Verma scored the ninth T20 fifty of his career. He was unbeaten on 60 off 29 balls. At the end of the innings, Rinku Singh contributed 12 runs in 8 balls. On the strength of the stormy batting of these two batsmen, India made a huge score of 219 runs in 20 overs.
