India to Host Inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy in February 2027

The ICC has officially confirmed India as the host of the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy, which is set to be held between February 14 and 28, 2027.

The Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will host the games, with the competition featuring six teams: Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

The Brabourne Stadium hasn’t hosted an international game since December 2022, when India women hosted Australia for a T20I series.

However, it has hosted the WPL 2023 and a few matches in WPL 2025. Meanwhile, Vadodara has hosted WPL games in the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

The six teams secured the spot through the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, based on the standings at Jule 06 qualification cutoff. They will face each other in a round-robin league, after which the top two teams will contest the final on February 28.

The tournament was originally slated to be held in Sri Lanka, but has been moved out due to Sri Lanka Cricket continuing to make requisite reforms outlined at the ICC’s annual conference in July.

The ICC assessed three candidates – Bangladesh, India and South Africa before recommending the sub-continent as replacement host.

Speaking on the host confirmation, ICC chairman Jay Shah said, “The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 marks an exciting new chapter for women’s cricket. As the inaugural edition of the tournament, it will bring together the best teams in the world in an intense, high-quality competition, while creating even greater incentive for teams to continue rising through the rankings and competing for a place on the global stage.”

“With a marquee ICC women’s event now taking place every year, we have a significant opportunity to build greater momentum, provide more consistency and create a stronger rhythm for the women’s game, its players and its fans around the world.”

The ICC has further added that the tickets, along with the full schedule, timing and dates, will be released later.
