Sri Lanka announces team for Test series against India, Dickwella and Madushanka return

Cricket Updates: Sri Lanka has announced its 16-member team for the first match of the Test series against India. The first Test between the two teams will be played in Galle from Saturday. The captaincy of the Sri Lankan team will be in the hands of Dhananjay de Silva, while Kamindu Mendis has been given the responsibility of vice-captain.

The biggest news is the return of experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella to the Sri Lankan team. Dickwella played his last Test against New Zealand in 2023. Since then he was out of the Test team. Sri Lanka has also included Dilshan Madushanka in the fast bowling department. Madushanka played his only Test against Pakistan in 2023.

Young batsman Pasindu Suriyabandara has got a place in the Test team for the first time. He has been given this opportunity after consistently good performance in domestic cricket. If he is included in the playing-11, he can make his Test debut against India.

For Sri Lanka, its record in Test cricket against India is also not very encouraging. So far 17 test series have been played between the two countries. India has won 10 of these series, whereas Sri Lanka has been able to win the series only 3 times. Four series have been drawn. Sri Lanka last won a Test series against India in 2008. Since then, it has not been able to defeat India in six consecutive series.
