Lucknow. Yogi Government's Anti-Land Mafia Campaign against illegal encroachments on public properties in Uttar Pradesh has been in the news continuously. According to the Revenue Department, under strict action and various campaigns, more than 84,005 hectares of area in the state has been freed from illegal encroachment in the last nine and a half years. This area is equal to approximately 2.08 lakh acres. Freeing the land from illegal encroachments along with redressal of complaints, litigation and criminal action against identified land mafias gave this campaign a more comprehensive form. Through these actions in the past years, the Yogi government has clearly expressed its intention against land mafia.

Action through task force formed at four levels
According to Revenue Department officials, Anti-Land Mafia Task Force was formed at four levels – state, division, district and tehsil level – to take effective action against illegal encroachment on public properties in the state. Its objective is to carry forward the process in a systematic manner from identification of illegal encroachments to taking action against them and freeing the land from encroachment. Under this, an anti-land mafia portal was developed for online registration of complaints related to illegal encroachments and effective monitoring of the action taken.
4.34 lakh complaints received, more than 99 percent resolved
A total of 4,34,016 complaints related to illegal occupation were received on the Anti-Land Mafia Portal in the state. Of these, 4,31,697 complaints i.e. more than 99 percent have been resolved. And 2,319 complaints are pending for disposal. In the Yogi government, Vibhan not only laid emphasis on freeing the land from encroachment through the campaign, but a system of monitoring has also been made from registering the complaints online till their disposal. This led to the development of a mechanism to continuously track the status of the operation.

More than 2 lakh acres of land encroachment free
One of the biggest achievements of the Anti-Land Mafia Campaign in Uttar Pradesh is to free more than 84,005 hectares of land from illegal encroachment. With this, about 2.08 lakh acres of land has become available to speed up the development of the state. It also includes a large scale government land bank, which can be used for various development schemes.
Legal crackdown tightened on land mafia
Anti-Land Mafia Portal has become an important means of monitoring the campaign. Along with administrative action, legal action was also taken forward in cases of illegal occupations. In the last years, 25,068 revenue cases, 1,168 civil cases and 4,751 FIRs were registered under the campaigns. Under the campaign, 1,413 encroachers were identified as land mafia. Of these, 144 land mafia are currently lodged in jail.

According to the Revenue Department, action has been taken against 1,621 encroachers under the Indian Penal Code, 1,621 cases against 109 people under the Code of Criminal Procedure, 3 under the National Security Act, 70 people under the Gangster Act, 206 people under the Goonda Act and action has been taken against 1,745 people under other sections.
Land bank can be used for development works
Yogi Government has been developing the government land freed from encroachment as a land bank and making it the basis for industrial investment and expansion of infrastructure. Now the vacated land can be systematically identified and made available for industries, pharmaceutical and manufacturing units, logistics parks, universities, medical colleges and other big investment proposals. This will speed up providing land to investors and create new employment opportunities. The state-wide campaign of the Revenue Department has worked to further strengthen the development vision of the Yogi government.
