Indian boxers continue to perform brilliantly in the Commonwealth Games 2026. On Saturday, Ankush Panghal and Sachin Siwach gave new heights to India’s boxing campaign by winning gold medals in their respective categories, while Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain won a silver medal in the women’s 75 kg category. Thanks to these brilliant performances, India reached fourth place in the medal table.
Ankush Panghal became champion of 80 kg category
In the final of the men’s 80 kg category, Ankush Panghal won the gold medal by defeating host England’s Shittu Dimjee by a 4-1 split decision.
Despite falling behind on some judges’ scorecards in the first round, Ankush made a brilliant comeback in the second and third rounds. With aggressive punches, accurate counter attacks and excellent ring control, he turned the fight in his favor.
Three judges declared him the winner 29-26, while the other two judges gave the verdict 28-27, one in favor of Ankush and one in favor of the England boxer.
Sachin Siwach won gold in a thrilling match
In the final of the men’s 60 kg category, India’s Sachin Siwach won the gold medal by defeating Namibia’s Triagen Morni Ndwelo in a very close match by a 3-2 split decision.
There was a close contest in all three rounds. Sachin maintained his composure throughout the match and impressed the judges by delivering accurate punches at crucial junctures. In the end, three judges ruled in favor of the Indian boxer, while two judges gave the edge to the Namibian player.
Lovlina got silver medal
In the final of the women’s 75 kg category, India’s star boxer and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain lost by a 4-1 split decision against Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree.
Lovlina put up a great fight throughout the bout and landed several effective punches, but the judges found the Australian boxer’s aggression and ring control to be more effective. Despite this, Lovlina made an important contribution to India’s medal campaign by winning the silver medal.
India’s dominance in boxing
On Saturday, Indian boxers won a total of nine medals, which included seven gold and two silver. Gold medal winners included Ankush Panghal, Sachin Siwach, Arundhati Chaudhary, Priya, Sakshi, Preeti and Jasmine, while Lovlina Borgohain and Jadumani Singh won silver medals.
Apart from this, India secured first and second position in men’s F-57 shot put event and also won bronze medal in judo. On the basis of these achievements, India has secured fourth position in the medal table of Commonwealth Games 2026.
India has so far won 35 medals, which include 11 gold, 16 silver and 8 bronze medals. Many Indian players have still reached the finals in boxing, due to which the number of medals is expected to increase further.
