Indian cricket legends extend wishes on occasion of the 80th Independence Day

India celebrated its 80th Independence Day on 15th August. For Indian cricket fans, it was the day when the side took to the field for their 600th Test match. Shubman Gill’s team took on Sri Lanka, and former player Russell Arnold wished the Indians just before the toss took place.

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar posed with the national flag and wrote “Happy Independence Day!”.

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan posted a few pictures of himself. “Some of the proudest moments of my life have come wearing the India jersey. Here’s to the country that gave me the dream, the opportunity and the belief to chase it. Happy 80th Independence Day,” he wrote.

India’s T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer also wished his fellow countrymen on the joyous day. The current coach, Gautam Gambhir, posted a picture of the Tricolour and wrote, “Their sacrifice. Our freedom. Our responsibility: India” Gambhir also posted two Indian flag emojis on either side while ending the tweet with Jai Hind.

VVS Laxman posted a beautiful rendition of the national anthem in his Tweet and wrote, “Happy Independence Day Let us celebrate the spirit of freedom, honour the sacrifices of those who gave us our independence, and continue to contribute towards building a stronger, more united and progressive India. Jai Hind.”

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma post special messages

Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan posted wishes. Veteran India stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma took to their Instagram handles to post wishes. “Always proud to carry the Indian flag! Happy Independence Day,” Rohit Sharma wrote.

Virat on the other hand wrote, “Celebrating the freedom that unites us, the diversity that defines us, and the dreams that drive us forward. May we continue building an India that inspires generations. Jai Hind.”
