Delhi: The first day of the first Test being played between Sri Lanka and India in Galle was entirely in the name of Team India. India won the toss and decided to bat first in its 600th Test. The first day's play was interrupted by rain twice, due to which only 73 overs could be played.
However, despite this, by the end of the day's play, the Indian team had scored 288 runs for 2 wickets in 73 overs. Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten after scoring 131 runs, while Rishabh Pant is supporting him by scoring 27 runs.

Jaiswal's innings ended with run out
India had a good start, but at the score of 47, Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out after scoring 32 runs. Due to a mistake in coordination with Rahul, both the batsmen reached the same end and Jaiswal had to lose his wicket. After this, number-3 Devdutt Padikkal came to the crease. He took charge of the innings along with KL Rahul. Both of them made a brilliant partnership of 150 runs for the second wicket.

KL Rahul batted with great patience and was successful in scoring a half-century. However, after tea, Rahul suffered from cramps and he retired hurt on a personal score of 77 runs and walked out of the field. Due to this, the wonderful partnership between him and Padikkal also broke. Due to Rahul's injury, Team India will now keep an eye on his fitness.
Padikkal scored the first test century of his career
Even after Rahul went out, Padikkal did not let his attention wander. He continued batting brilliantly and completed the first century of his Test career.
Padikkal has scored 131 runs in 178 balls. His innings included 12 fours and 1 six. This century is also special for him because India was looking for a reliable batsman at number-3 for a long time. The last century at number-3 for India was scored by Shubman Gill in 2024.

Gill could not play a big innings
After Rahul retired hurt, captain Shubman Gill came on the field, but he could not stay for long. After scoring 16 runs in 28 balls, Gill was caught by Lahiru Udara on the ball of Prabhat Jayasuriya. After this, Rishabh Pant took the innings forward with Padikkal. By the end of the day's play, there was an unbeaten partnership of 52 runs between the two.
