India's 36-year-old Chahal played his last red-ball match for Northamptonshire at Lord's, after which he has said goodbye to red ball cricket. It clearly means that his red ball career has come to an end but he will continue to play white ball cricket. He has never played red ball cricket for the Indian cricket team. He did not get to play Test matches for India but he has made important contributions for the country in ODIs and T20s.

Yuvvendra Chahal posted on Instagram and wrote, 'The first cricket ball I caught was a red ball. I was 10 years old and I had no idea then that I would fall in love with this game so much. For me, red-ball cricket was never just another format. It was here that I learned the meaning of patience, character, strength and the true joy of staying on the field for hours and fighting for every run and every wicket. I played my last first-class match at Lord's, these words are emotional to say because the Test cap was always a dream, which I carried with me for many years. It may not have happened but I am really happy with my journey and am very thankful for every opportunity I have got in this format.

Chahal further wrote in the post, 'Red Ball gave me some of the most beautiful memories of my life and nothing can ever take it away but I am not finished yet. The hunger to play for his country is still alive. I feel I still have cricket left in me and I will give my all to get another chance in the ODI and T20 formats. Special thanks to Haryana Cricket Association Mr. Ranbir Singh Mahindra Sir and Mr. Anirudh Singh Chaudhary Sir for their constant support, trust and confidence throughout my journey. Chahal has taken 121 wickets in 69 innings of 72 ODI matches for India. He has 96 wickets in his name in 79 innings of 80 T20 matches. In first class cricket, Chahal has taken 148 wickets in 79 innings of 49 matches with the red ball. He plays cricket for Haryana in domestic cricket.
