Indian mangoes are being sold in abundance in American cities, ‘Mango Festival’ in Seattle, huge demand for Saffron-Alphonso increased.

New York/Seattle. Indian mangoes are a rage in American cities. American people are eagerly eating the popular varieties of this fruit and are also demanding more of them. The Indian Consulate in Seattle organized a special event highlighting the export and utilization potential of the ‘King of Fruits’ Mango in the Pacific Northwest region of America.

More than 100 American importers participated

The Indian Consulate in Seattle on Friday hosted the second edition of ‘Mango Magic: Promotion and Tasting Event of Indian Mangoes’. Over 100 leading importers of Indian fruits including senior leadership from US retail giants like ‘Costco’ participated in the event.

Hafus of Maharashtra and Langra-Dussehri of UP won hearts

During this, importers also got the opportunity to taste seven fine varieties of Indian mangoes – Alphonso (Hafus) and Kesar of Maharashtra, Banganapalli (Safeda) and Himayat of Andhra Pradesh, Langra and famous Dussehri of Uttar Pradesh and Rajapuri of Gujarat.

A press release issued by the Indian Consulate in Seattle said the program has further enhanced the potential of regional mango varieties and the possibilities for their export and utilization by more people in the Pacific Northwest region of the US.

Delicious Indian dishes made from mango served in lunch

Organized in collaboration with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), this Indian mango promotion program also included a lunch where Indian dishes prepared from Indian mangoes were served.

Washington’s Lieutenant Governor also became a fan of mangoes

“I will never forget this mango event as long as I live,” Washington State Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck said in a video message. Addressing the special event, Heck welcomed the introduction of a wide variety of Indian mangoes to Washington.

Bob Huskey, vice president of fresh fruits and vegetables for Costco Wholesale, said the retailer recently started selling Indian saffron mangoes, “and they are selling so fast that we can’t even import them and get them in time.” We are very happy to sell the mangoes and we are glad that we could be a part of the mango festival organized at the Consulate.” Other dignitaries attending the event included Washington MPs Tina Orwell, Manka Dhingra and Vandana Slatter and the Consuls General of Japan and Uzbekistan.
