Lower berth quota in coaches
According to railway rules, lower berth facility has been allotted in every coach for pregnant women, so that pregnant women can travel comfortably without any hassle. 6 to 7 lower berths have been allotted in sleeper class. Apart from this, about 4 to 5 lower berths are fixed in 3AC coach and about 3 to 4 lower berths are fixed in 2AC coach. These lower berths are specially reserved for pregnant women, senior citizens and women above 45 years of age, which you can book.
Ticket booking process and rules
If you want to buy a ticket under special quota for a pregnant woman, then you will have to buy the ticket from the railway counter (PRS Counter) only. Let us tell you that Railways has not provided direct facility to choose separate special quota for pregnant women in IRCTC. While booking a lower berth ticket, you will have to fill a form at the reservation counter, in which complete details of the pregnant woman will have to be filled and a doctor’s medical certificate may also have to be shown. Only on the basis of this information and verification, the lower seat of the pregnant woman can be confirmed.
