Indian youth have created history by showcasing their talent in the 48th WorldSkills Competition held from 22 to 27 September in Shanghai, China. In this global Mahakumbh, India has performed brilliantly and won a total of 6 silver medals and 20 medallions of excellence. On the basis of this excellent performance, India has jumped from 13th place to 10th place in the global rankings. This is the country's biggest improvement so far compared to the 13th place achieved in Lyon last year (Lyon 2024).
This time, India had sent its largest team till date in the competition, in which 70 participants took part in 63 skill categories. The special thing is that this time India debuted in 11 new categories, which included modern skills like dental prosthetics, intelligent security technology, landscape gardening, retail sales, software testing and aircraft maintenance. In this historic success of India, Smriti Nambiar for Bakery, Mohammed Salam for Dental Prosthetics, Covid Ajay Gangarade for Digital Media Design, Parth Vohra for Industrial Design, Mehrunissa Begum for Logistics and Sania Joshi for Retail Sales brought pride to the country by winning silver medals.
Smriti Nambiar, who performed brilliantly in the Bakery category, was also awarded the prestigious 'Best of Nation' title. The entire partnership was coordinated by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary has described this success of India as a huge leap in the country's global skill journey, which shows the strength of the emerging and skilled youth of New India.
