Jakarta. Flight services to and from Indonesia's capital Jakarta were restored early Tuesday. Airports had to be closed for two days due to the ash released from the volcanic eruption, affecting about 3,000 flights.
3.41 lakh passengers affected
'Anak Krakatau Volcano' The continuous eruption, sound of lava fountains and loud bangs had stopped on Sunday. Around 2,961 flights, including 622 international flights, were affected due to airport closure on Sunday and Monday. This caused problems to about 3,41,000 passengers.

Transport Minister Dudi Purwagandhi said Sukarno-Hatta International Airport and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, which serve Jakarta, Hussein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung city in West Java and two smaller airports in Banten province, reopened shortly after midnight.
Despite the improvement in the situation, however, three other airports remained closed till 10 am local time.
Normal operations had resumed at Atung Bungsu Airport in Pagar Alam, South Sumatra province on Monday morning.
“We are adopting a precautionary approach as the wind direction is changing very rapidly,” Purvagandhi said in a statement. “We want to make sure that the volcanic ash is moved away from the airports around Anak Krakatau.”

Anak Krakatoa is an active volcanic island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. Its name means “child of Krakatoa.” Which emerged from the sea in 1927, decades after the deadly eruption of Krakatoa in 1883. Its location is on the Sunda Strait, approximately between Jakarta and Bandar Lampung. It is a type of active stratovolcano whose powerful eruption can cause lava flow, ash release and landslides from the volcano.
If we talk about the disaster of 2018, a large part of the volcano's edge fell into the sea during the eruption, causing a tsunami that engulfed the coastal areas of Indonesia. More than 400 people were killed. That is why the volcano is being constantly monitored because its activity can change rapidly.
