Inequality…. 826 million people in the world are forced to live on less than $3… 10% have 75% of the wealth.

New Delhi. Wealth is increasing in the world, but the basic needs of millions of people are still not being met. According to the latest data of Global Poverty, more than 826 million people are forced to live on less than three dollars per day. About 280 crore people do not have safe, accessible and adequate housing, while about 380 crore suffer from illness, unemployment and lack of social security in old age. According to the reports of World Inequality Lab, the richest 10% of the world have 75% of the wealth, while the other half of the population has only 2% of the wealth.

  • Only 10% share in global income

According to the report, the distribution of income is extremely unequal. The top 10% of the world's population receives more than half of total global income, while the bottom half accounts for less than 10%. The richest 0.001 percent, or less than 60 thousand people, control more than six percent of global wealth.

India's picture is also not good

India's top 1% owns about 40% of the national wealth and the top 10% owns about 65%. However, due to the definition of property and assessment methodology in different reports, the picture cannot be completely clear.

According to International Labor Organization data, 284 million workers were living in extreme poverty in 2025. This was about 7.9 percent of the employed people. This shows that merely finding work does not guarantee escape from poverty.
