New Delhi: The issue of alleged objectionable remarks about actress Trisha has once again heated up in Tamil Nadu politics. Chief Minister and actor Thalapathy Vijay gave a strong message in the Assembly regarding respect for women without taking anyone's name. He said that there can be heated debate on ideas and policies in politics, but derogatory language against women should not be accepted at any cost.
Vijay's strict stance on respect of women
Vijay said in the Assembly that before saying anything objectionable about a woman, a person should think about the women in his family. He said that women have played an important role in his political journey and he will not tolerate any derogatory remarks against women.
Vijay also said that freedom of expression does not mean that any person should cross the limits of decorum. Referring to former Chief Minister Jayalalitha, he said that she too had faced many kinds of insults in politics.
Controversy started with Udhayanidhi Stalin's comment
In fact, a controversy had arisen over Udhayanidhi Stalin's speech during a program organized on the Cauvery issue in Thanjavur in August. Some people in the program called out the name of actress Trisha, after which Stalin was accused of making objectionable remarks about Vijay and Trisha.
However, Stalin had denied these allegations. Police action also took place amid the controversy and he was detained. Later he was released.
Vijay targeted in the assembly
Vijay made it clear in his address that political criticism is part of democracy, but personal remarks and insult to women are not acceptable. His statement is being seen as an indirect political target on the Stalin family. In the Assembly, Vijay also cornered the opposition on issues related to corruption and previous governments and cited reports of old cases.
