One woman died and six others were injured after a wall collapsed on a group of women in Sevar town of Rajasthan's Bharatpur district on Monday.
The incident occurred in the Sikligar neighborhood when the women were reportedly heading towards a market. A wall constructed on the rooftop of a house suddenly collapsed, burying them under the debris.
Local residents rushed to the spot and began removing the rubble by hand before heavy machinery arrived. The trapped women were rescued one by one and initially taken to Sevar Hospital. They were later shifted to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur for further treatment.
Doctors at RBM Hospital declared 80-year-old Premvati, wife of Roshan, dead during treatment. The other injured women are undergoing treatment.
The injured have been identified as Meera, 55, wife of Hardayal; Nandani, 18, daughter of Hardayal; Sunita, 45, wife of Nemi; Veermati, 50, wife of Omi; and Ramdhakeli, 60, wife of Ramesh, among others.
Administrative and police officials reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and supervised the rescue and shifting of the injured.
According to the district administration, a preliminary assessment indicates that a monkey jumping onto the rooftop may have caused the wall to collapse.
Bharatpur Collector Kamar Chaudhary said the monkey's jump may have triggered the collapse of the wall, which had been constructed on the roof of the house.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma later visited RBM Hospital and met the injured women. He spoke to doctors about their condition, reviewed the treatment arrangements and directed officials to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care.
