IPL 2026: Chennai scored a hat-trick of wins, defeated Lucknow by 5 wickets

Chennai. After Jamie Overton (three wickets), thanks to the brilliant performance of Urvil Petal (65) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (42), Chennai Super Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Sunday. With this victory, Chennai Super Kings has reached fifth place in the points table.

At the critical time, Shivam Dubey and Prashant Veer made an unbeaten partnership of 39 runs for the sixth wicket and gave their team a five-wicket win. Chasing the target of 204 runs, the pair of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 45 runs for the first wicket for Chennai Super Kings. In the fourth over, Digvesh Rathi broke this partnership by dismissing Sanju Samson (28 runs) in 14 balls.

Samson hit three fours and two sixes in his innings. After this, Urvil Patel, who came to bat, handled the innings along with Rituraj Gaikwad. There was an important partnership of 81 runs between the two batsmen for the second wicket. Shahbaz Ahmed gave second success to Lucknow Super Giants by dismissing Urvil Patel in the 10th over.

Patel played an inning of 65 runs in 23 balls, hitting two fours and eight sixes. In the 13th over, Shahbaz Ahmed tried to bring his team back into the match by bowling Rituraj Gaikwad. Rituraj Gaikwad scored 42 runs in 28 balls hitting three fours and two sixes. Karthik Sharma (20) was out as the fifth wicket after scoring 20 runs.

Chennai Super Kings won the match by scoring 208 runs for five wickets in 19.2 overs. Shivam Dubey scored unbeaten 15 runs hitting two sixes in seven balls. Whereas Prashant Veer scored unbeaten 17 runs with the help of two sixes in 12 balls. Digvesh Rathi and Shahbaz Ahmed took two wickets each for Lucknow Super Giants.

Avesh Khan got one wicket. Earlier today, on the basis of explosive batting of Josh Inglis (85) and Shahbaz Ahmed (43 not out), Lucknow Super Giants scored a huge score of 203 runs for eight wickets against Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Josh Inglis, who came to bat for Lucknow Super Giants, displayed explosive batting in the power play and took the team’s score to 77 runs in just 5.1 overs. Anshul Kamboj brought Chennai back into the match by dismissing English partner Mitchell Marsh. After this, Nicholas Pooran (one) was dismissed by Noor Ahmed and sent to the pavilion.

During this, Jose Inglis batted brilliantly and completed his half-century with the help of six fours and four sixes in just 17 balls. This is the third fastest half-century scored by any batsman for Lucknow in the history of IPL. Nicholas Pooran has achieved the feat of scoring half-centuries twice, in 15 balls against ACB and in 16 balls against Mumbai Indians.

In the 10th over, Jamie Overton destroyed Lucknow’s hopes of scoring big by dismissing Josh Inglis. He also caught captain Rishabh Pant (15) on the fourth ball of the same over. Josh Inglis played an inning of 85 runs in 33 balls, hitting 10 fours and six sixes. Aidan Markram (1) and Akshat Raghuvanshi (18) were out after scoring runs.

After this Himmat Singh and Shahbaz Ahmed took over the innings. There was a partnership of 50 runs between the two batsmen. In the last over of the innings, Anshul Kamboj broke this partnership by bowling Himmat Singh (17). Mohammed Shami (0) was run out on the very next ball.

Shahbaz Ahmed hit a six on the last ball of the innings and took his team’s score to 203 runs. Shahbaz Ahmed scored unbeaten 43 runs in 25 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes. Jamie Overton took three wickets for Chennai Super Kings. Anshul Kamboj got two wickets. Noor Ahmed dismissed one batsman.
