Mumbai. Nicholas Pooran’s stormy half-century helped Lucknow Super Giants score 228 runs for five wickets against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League on Monday. Apart from scoring a half-century, Puran (63 runs, 21 balls, eight sixes, one four) along with opener Mitchell Marsh (44 runs, 25 balls, four fours, three sixes) provided a solid platform to the Super Giants by adding 94 runs for the second wicket.

Himmat Singh (40 not out, 31 balls, two fours, two sixes) and Aiden Markram (31 not out, 25 balls, one six, one four) finally made an unbroken partnership of 68 runs in 49 balls for the sixth wicket, taking the team’s score beyond 200 runs but both failed to increase the run rate. Corbin Bosch was the most successful bowler for Mumbai, taking two wickets for 20 runs. Allah Ghazanfar (one wicket for 50 runs), Will Jacques (one wicket for 34 runs) and Raghu Sharma (one wicket for 36 runs) took one wicket each.

Lucknow team, which came to bat after losing the toss, lost the wicket of Jose Inglis (13) in the third over itself, who was caught by Suryakumar Yadav off the ball of spinner Ghazanfar. Earlier, he hit two consecutive fours on this spinner. Marsh started with sixes and fours on consecutive balls of Deepak Chahar and then hit sixes and two fours on consecutive balls of Jasprit Bumrah.

Pooran showed signs of a return to form with three sixes off Will Jacques. He also hit two sixes and a four on Ghazanfar. Super Giants scored 90 runs for one wicket in the power play. Puran completed his half-century in just 16 balls with a six over fine leg over Chahar. However, Puran then got caught by wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton off the ball of Bosch. In the same over, Bosch also gave a double blow to the Super Giants by getting Marsh caught by Naman.

Captain Rishabh’s poor performance continued and he was caught by Rickelton off Jacques’ ball after scoring 15 runs. Akshat Raghuvanshi also got caught by Raghu Singh after scoring 11 runs, due to which the score of Super Giants became 160 runs for five wickets. After a slow start, Himmat Singh hit a six and a four on consecutive balls off Ghazanfar and then completed the team’s double century of runs in the 17th over with a four on Raghu.
