US President Donald Trump has said that the ongoing war with Iran is probably nearing an end. Trump claimed that Iran wants to make a deal with America and has also contacted America directly. Trump said this while talking to reporters after reaching North Carolina on Wednesday.
Which phase of the war is America in?
Journalists asked Trump what stage he currently sees in the ongoing war between America and Iran. On this Trump said, hopefully we are towards the end of the war. “They want to compromise and we will see how it goes,” he said.
When Trump was asked whether Iran contacted him directly or sent the message through an intermediary, he replied, “Directly.” That means, according to Trump, Iran has contacted America directly.
Questions on rising prices and interest rates also
During the conversation, a journalist asked Trump whether interest rates were being raised to reduce prices that had risen due to the Iran war. Trump denied this. He said that interest rates are being increased so that they suffer maximum loss. Trump claimed that the current problem is that America has the strongest economy in history.
Tension continues regarding the Strait of Hormuz
This statement of Trump has come at a time when tension has increased between Iran and America regarding the Strait of Hormuz. A memorandum of understanding was signed in June to reopen this strategically important waterway. This was seen as an initial step towards a comprehensive peace agreement.
America-Iran conflict continues since February
America and Israel launched large-scale attacks on Iran in February. Government buildings, military bases, missile structures and air defense systems were targeted in these attacks.
In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israel and US military bases in the region. After this the conflict gradually spread throughout the region. However, diplomatic efforts to end the war also continue.
