Marco Rubio calls the first direct talks between Lebanon and Israel in Washington in decades as historic
Historic Middle East Peace Talks: Lebanon and Israel have held historic Middle East peace talks face to face for the first time in decades in Washington, USA. The whole world is keeping an eye on this important meeting because there was a war going on between the two countries for a long time. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called this special conversation a very historic opportunity. This diplomatic meeting has taken place at a time when there is continuing high tension and conflict throughout the Middle East.
historical conversation
The meeting in Washington lasted for more than two hours, a rare opportunity for engagement between the two countries. Israeli Ambassador to America Yechiel Leiter has described this long discussion as very positive and important. Lebanon was strongly represented in Washington by its Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Mouawad.
discussion on hezbollah
Representatives of both countries openly expressed their shared concern about the growing influence of Iran-backed Hezbollah. According to the Israeli ambassador, the Lebanese government no longer wants to remain under Hezbollah’s control. It has become clear from this conversation that both sides stand on the same side regarding Hezbollah.
Iran becomes weaker
Ambassador Lighter said that at present Iran has become much weaker than before. This has also had a direct impact on Hezbollah, which has now become weak to a great extent. With the weakening of these two forces, a new path to liberate Lebanon appears to be opening.
ground reality
Despite diplomatic efforts, the situation at the ground level still remains quite tense and worrying. Hezbollah has strongly opposed the entire negotiations and it did not include any of its representatives. It is continuously attacking northern Israel while the Israeli army is carrying out its operations in southern Lebanon.
challenges ahead
The Lebanese army has not yet succeeded in completely disarming Hezbollah. The extremist group still wields considerable military power and major political influence throughout Lebanon. The group’s absence from these talks remains the biggest challenge to any lasting agreement.

hope for peace
Even if the talks have been successful, Rubio has refused to expect any immediate success. The war that lasted for more than a month between Israel and Hezbollah has left deep wounds. Still, talking about these countries that have been at war for decades is a strong first step towards peace.
