The Israeli army has launched a limited anti-terrorism operation in the Hebron area of the West Bank. This operation has been launched after two Israeli soldiers were killed in a firing incident. Many people have also been injured in the firing. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Friday that soldiers and other security forces had launched a search operation to locate and destroy weapons and infrastructure linked to the attackers.
The Israeli Army said that residents of the areas where their soldiers are working will be allowed to go out only through 3 designated exit points. “In response to the shooting attack, the IDF, together with other security forces, launched a targeted and limited counter-terrorism operation in the Hebron area from which the terrorists came,” the IDF said in a post on Twitter.
The Army said that residents of the areas where their soldiers are working will be allowed to go out only from three designated places. “Following questioning and security checks, those suspected will be handed over to security forces for further questioning,” the IDF said.
Following the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a complete lockdown in the West Bank and visited Hebron on Friday. According to Israeli officials the attack was carried out by alleged Hamas terrorists. This incident happened just 5 days before the elections in Israel.
Netanyahu said the attackers had tried to harm Israelis before the election, but were stopped by soldiers. He said that a few weeks ago we talked about the possibility that our enemies may try to harm our citizens and soldiers before the elections. He said that the IDF soldiers used their bodies as shields to stop the attack, in which some soldiers were injured, but they not only stopped the terrorists but also fought bravely and eliminated them.
Netanyahu also announced a major security operation in the area from where the attackers came. He said that the Israeli army will remove people from there and search the houses. Also said that it will also destroy the structure which it has described as terrorist infrastructure.
