Security forces have struck a decisive blow against cross-border terrorism and narco-terror syndicates operating in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the latest official data released by Jammu and Kashmir Police, so far as part of the special operation launched to dismantle the entire network of drug trafficking and terrorist funding resulting from it. 288 illegal properties worth more than ₹138 crore attached Has been done. The month of September was strategically very successful for the security forces in the anti-terrorist operations from the valley to Pir Panjal and the dense forests of Jammu division. Jammu and Kashmir Police has taken multi-pronged action to save the young generation of the state from the quagmire of drugs and to stop the terrorist network running on drug money.

  • Record Arrests: More than 3,257 cases have been registered so far under the NDPS Act across the state, out of which more than 2,500 cases have been disposed of expeditiously.

  • Conviction expedited: During this intensive campaign approximately 4,000 drug smugglers and smuggling gang members arrested Taxes have been sent to jail, while due to strong chargesheet and effective advocacy, 170 criminals have also been convicted in the courts.

  • Strict Use of PIT-NDPS: 144 notorious smugglers have been detained under the Preventive Detention Act (PIT-NDPS Act) to keep top leaders of narco-syndicates in jail without bail, which is the highest in the country.

Assets have been attached under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against the facilitators of terrorists (over-ground workers i.e. OGWs) and terror handlers sitting in Pakistan and spreading terror in the valley. Police officials have clarified that houses and lands providing safe haven to terrorists, providing vehicles or supplying food and weapons to them are being confiscated and brought under the control of the state. According to police captains of Srinagar and Jammu, links in the entire supply chain—the original sources of drugs, the storage centres, the distribution gangs and the ultimate beneficiaries of their profits—are being identified and brought to justice.

The DGP underlined that along with strict law enforcement on terrorism and drug networks, the police is engaged in connecting the youth with creative and mainstream activities. The participation of thousands of children and youth in the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon and sports events organized at Dal Lake shows that the people of the valley are now embracing peace, sports and development instead of violence and destruction. This dual model of policing—on the one hand zero tolerance for terror and drugs and on the other hand deep public dialogue with the local population—is laying a strong foundation for lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
