A new two part docuseries about the Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is coming to the BBC.

The Rogan Scotland produced series will follow the 61-year-old British author rise to fame, her cultural impact and her disputed legacy, while exploring three decades of significant social, political and technological shifts through the lens of her life, the press release stated.

While raising her child as a struggling single mother, Rowling wrote Harry Potter in an Edinburgh café.

The seven part book series, which was first published in 1997, went on to become a global phenomenon and a fan favourite across generations.

It has since come out with films, television adaptations, video games, theme parks as well as an extensive merchandising business.

Beyond her literary success, she has increasingly become involved in contentious political debates.

The press release shared that the docuseries will explore her transformation into what it describes as “one of Britain’s most polarizing public figures.”

In its second episode, the series will trace how Rowling moved beyond her literary success to establish herself as a powerful political voice.

The author herself is not involved in the documentary itself.

Instead, it will explore her story through archive footage, her writing and conversations with people who have worked alongside her.
