Jagannath Rath Yatra Special Trains : The railway administration has given a big relief to lakhs of devotees coming from all over the country for Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra at world famous Puri in Odisha. Indian Railways has taken an important decision to run more than 1150 special trains in view of the extra rush of passengers during this year’s festival season. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav clarified that this is only a preliminary number and the administration has made full preparations to release additional trains immediately if required.

14 days special planning

Indian Railways has made a special and well-planned two weeks i.e. 14 days for this year’s Rath Yatra festival. During the monsoon session of Parliament, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Subhashish Khuntia questioned the government regarding the management of the crowd during the Rath Yatra. In a written reply to him, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav presented the entire itinerary. Accordingly, the Railways has fixed the schedule of daily trains to divide the immense crowd of devotees during the main festival period from July 15 to July 28. During these 14 days, railway control rooms will be functioning round the clock to ensure that passengers coming and going from various states across the country get confirmed tickets and avoid stampedes at stations. Strong connection of regular trains

Presently Puri railway station is connected with 116 regular express and superfast trains of the country. These include premier trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Duronto and Garib Rath, which directly connect Odisha to major metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Guwahati. Accommodation facility for 30 thousand devotees at stations

The local administration has taken a big step in the railway station area to avoid inconvenience to the devotees not only during the train journey but also after reaching Puri. Massive temporary shelters have been set up in the station area to accommodate around 30,000 pilgrims at a time. On-demand trains as per passenger needs

The Railway Control Room is currently keeping a close eye on the waiting list of tickets on various routes across the country. The Railway Minister clarified that although the planning of 1150 trains has been completed, the engines and staff of the railways have been kept ready to get the special ‘on-demand’ trains on the track immediately in case of overcrowding.
