A joint meeting of MLAs from all allies, including the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Legislature Party and Congress, was held in Srinagar to chalk out a joint strategy for the ten-day autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly starting from Monday (September 21).
This meeting was held under the chairmanship of party president Dr. Farooq Abdullah at the Government Banquet Hall in Srinagar on Sunday. It was attended by Congress, CPI and five independent MLAs as well as JKNC Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and participated in the discussion as part of preparations for the upcoming session.
The MLAs discussed the upcoming legislative business as well as various issues of public interest such as public welfare, development and governance during the session. Farooq Abdullah asked the MLAs to maintain mutual coordination and ensure that the concerns and aspirations of the people are effectively raised in the House. According to a statement issued after the meeting, they stressed the need for “constructive partnership and focused engagement” on people-to-people matters.
National Conference MLA and chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq dismissed any differences between the Congress and the National Conference, saying, “All allies and National Conference MLAs attended the meeting to chalk out a joint strategy for the session. First the NC MLAs held a separate meeting and then the Congress and other members also held a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.”
“Karra Saheb and Congress MLAs were present in the personal meeting as well as in the Legislature Party meeting of allies and there is no difference of opinion,” he said. The members also discussed the priorities of the issues to be raised during the session and deliberated on issues related to public welfare, development and governance. The importance of coordinated participation of party MLAs during the proceedings of the Assembly was emphasized in the meeting.
After the meeting was over, Salman Sagar said, “BJP will try to create ruckus in the Assembly on the first day, but we are all ready to counter it in the House with the support of our allies and run the Assembly.”
