Jennifer Lawrence has made an unexpected move after spending more than a decade without a public social media presence. The Oscar-winning actress has now stepped onto a social media platform she had previously kept at a distance, immediately drawing interest from fans. This latest move comes as she prepares for several major projects.
Jennifer Lawrence finally joins Instagram
Jennifer Lawrence has joined Instagram after more than a decade without a public presence on the social media platform. The actress launched a verified account on September 9, giving fans an official profile to follow for the first time. She has chosen the handle @jlaw for the account.
The account already has around 800,000 followers as of writing, even though Lawrence has yet to publish a post. Her bio also immediately addressed why the profile does not carry her full name, with Lawrence writing, “jenniferlawrence was taken.” Some of the accounts she follows are Josh Hutcherson, Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Dakota Johnson, Suki Waterhouse, and Andy Cohen.
Lawrence’s decision to join Instagram is notable given that she has previously kept her social media activity away from public view. During an interview with Fandango last year, she said, “I get in fights on TikTok,” referring to her activity in the platform’s comment sections.
Lawrence explained that her anonymous TikTok activity initially involved conversations about the Real Housewives franchise. She later began commenting on the royal family, saying, “And then it got really intense when I started commenting on the royal family. I guess I rage-bait on TikTok.”
The actress is also preparing to return to the big screen in several high-profile projects. Lawrence will appear in What Happens at Night, directed by Martin Scorsese and also starring Leonardo DiCaprio. She is also set to reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
