Tejashwi took revenge – How did you play with Congress in Jharkhand Rajya Sabha elections? inside story

Jharkhand Rajya Sabha Poll Result: India alliance has suffered a major political setback in the Rajya Sabha elections of Jharkhand. Despite having sufficient strength in the assembly, Congress candidate Pranab Jha could not register victory. The victory of BJP supported independent candidate Parimal Nathwani in the elections has surprised everyone. Nathwani got 28 votes to win, while Pranab Jha got only 20 votes. On the other hand, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Baijnath Ram won with 30 votes.

It is known that voting for two Rajya Sabha seats of Jharkhand was held on June 18. Two candidates were fielded from India Alliance in the election field, while Parimal Nathwani was supported by NDA as an independent candidate. To win a Rajya Sabha seat, the support of 28 MLAs was needed. Despite the India Alliance having a total of 56 MLAs in the Assembly, the defeat of the Congress candidate has raised many questions.

How did the equation change?

Out of total 81 seats in Jharkhand Assembly, JMM has 34 MLAs, while Congress has 16 MLAs. Apart from this, 4 MLAs of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and 2 of ML are part of the alliance. Thus, the total strength of the ruling coalition is 56 MLAs.
Whereas BJP has 21 MLAs in the opposition. Apart from this, JDU, LJP and AJSU have one MLA each. JLKM’s Jairam Mahato is also represented in the assembly.

Baijnath Ram got more votes than expected

According to the information, JMM candidate Baijnath Ram got 30 votes. Whereas he needed only 28 votes to win. It is believed that to keep the seat completely safe, the party also got additional MLAs to vote in his favor. It is discussed that Congress candidate Pranab Jha got the support of 16 Congress MLAs apart from 4 JMM MLAs.

Additional support in favor of Nathwani

On the second seat, all the MLAs from the opposition camp were seen united in support of Parimal Nathwani. He also got the support of Jairam Mahato. In this way, 25 votes were already considered in his favor. He needed three more votes to win, but he managed to garner more support than expected.
Congress in-charge K. Raju has alleged that RJD and MLA have betrayed the alliance.

Discussion on cross voting intensifies

There is discussion in political circles that some MLAs of Rashtriya Janata Dal and ML did cross voting. It is being told that Nathwani got five more votes than expected. Two of these votes were declared invalid. At the same time, information about cancellation of one vote cast in favor of Pranab Jha has also come to light.

JMM maintained silence

JMM national general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya refused to comment immediately on this entire incident. He said that the party will first discuss with its top leadership, only then any official response will be given.

RJD observer’s statement

After voting, Bhola Yadav, who was made an observer on behalf of RJD, while talking to the media in Ranchi, said that the party MLAs have voted as per the instructions of the top leadership. However, he did not clarify what instructions were given by the party high command.

Was Bihar’s resentment the reason?

There is also discussion in political circles that the influence of Bihar politics could be behind the cross voting in Jharkhand. It is being told that during the Rajya Sabha elections held in Bihar in April 2026, RJD candidate Amarendra Singh Dhari had to face defeat due to not getting the expected support from Congress MLAs. In such a situation, some political analysts are seeing the results of Jharkhand as a reaction to the same development.
