Justice Vikram Nath Next CJI: Supreme Court Justice Vikram Nath will be the next Chief Justice of India. He was born on 24 September 1962. He enrolled with the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council on 30 March 1987 and practiced as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court for over 17 years. On 24 September 2004, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court and was sworn in as a Permanent Judge on 27 February 2006.
Service in Gujarat High Court
After serving in the Allahabad High Court for fifteen years, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court on 10 September 2019. During his tenure as Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, Justice Nath started live-streaming of court proceedings, becoming the first Chief Justice of any High Court in India to do so. This initiative was a significant step towards the use of technology to increase transparency and increase public access to judicial proceedings.

Appointed as Supreme Court Judge in August 2021
He was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 31 August 2021. Justice Nath has also held important positions in the administration of justice and the legal services system. He served as the Chairman of the Legal Services Committee of the Supreme Court and since May 2025 has been the Chairman of the e-Committee of the Supreme Court of India, where he oversees the use of information and communication technology in the Indian judiciary.
Carried out many responsibilities
On November 24, 2025, Justice Nath assumed charge as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority. He also chairs the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee, which works to develop and strengthen mediation as a dispute resolution method across the country. In these roles, he has been involved in activities related to free legal aid, legal awareness, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods to bring justice to the vulnerable and marginalized sections of the society.
