New Delhi. The Parliament's inquiry committee has found all the three allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma to be true. The case pertains to the discovery of a large amount of cash in the store room of his official residence in 2025. The committee's report was presented in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, 12 August. Several bundles of ₹500 notes were found in the store room. The fire service and police personnel present during the investigation also told that the cash was not in one place, but was spread over a large part of the room. Delhi Fire Service employee Ankit Sehgal told the committee that he had seen bundles of ₹500 notes, which were spread around 7-8 feet.

When police officer Roop Chand was questioned about the amount of cash being more than ₹ 5 lakh, he said that the figure of ₹ 5 lakh is very small. However, the notes recovered from the spot were not seized, nor were they counted nor were their samples preserved. In such a situation, the committee could not decide how much cash was there in total. Despite this, the committee considered the allegation of finding unaccounted cash in the house proven.
Another serious matter related to evidence came to light in the investigation. The store room was not sealed immediately after the fire. A security official said that at around 3 am, Justice Verma's staff were seen cleaning the room. By morning the burnt items were taken out and the room was also cleaned.
According to the committee, the notes found there were also not secured and were not found later. The investigation panel admitted that during this period there was negligence in safeguarding important evidence and a situation of tampering with it was created. The committee also found this allegation to be true.
In the third charge, questions were raised regarding the statements of Justice Verma. Initially he denied having any knowledge of the cash. Later he claimed that the cash could be fake or might have been kept there as part of some conspiracy. But no FIR, complaint or concrete evidence came forward to support these claims.

Justice Verma himself did not come to testify before the inquiry committee. No one from his family or staff was presented as a witness. The committee described his explanations as incomplete and evasive and believed that his answers created a misleading impression.
In this way, the inquiry committee has considered all the three allegations leveled against Justice Yashwant Verma as proven. Justice Verma had resigned from the post of High Court judge in April this year.
