Kailash Kher’s big statement: Saying “sing two lines” is an insult to the artiste
It is often seen in public programs and ceremonies that the host says to the singers, ‘Brother, sing a few lines to entertain the audience.’ Most singers agree to this request. But famous singer Kailash Kher considers it against the dignity and respect of the artist. Recently, the seventh Six Sigma Leadership Summit of the Healthcare Sector was organized at Taj Palace, Delhi on 25 April 2026. Kailash Kher was also involved in this event. Kailash Kher got very angry when the host requested him to sing a few lines during the awards ceremony. He flatly refused and openly criticized this practice.
Kailash Kher said, ‘I want to change this very thing, this is what is piercing my mind. Singers and musicians should not be requested in such a way that ‘just sing two lines, create a mood.’ This is very wrong, please do not make such a request.
What did Kailash say on stage?
Giving further example, he said, ‘Would you say to Sachin Tendulkar, ‘Just show me by hitting a six’? Or will you tell a soldier to ‘take your position and fire a bullet’? No no! Then why is this done to the artist? Don’t make the artist a clown. Do not make the seeker a mere means of entertainment. Artists and seekers are of their own mind. His art comes from his heart. They sing only when they feel like it. They should not be asked to sing by force or with small requests.
What was people’s reaction?
People’s opinions were divided on social media on this strong and clear answer of Kailash Kher. Some people completely agreed with him and wrote, ‘Strong answer! Finally someone said this true thing. Some people also criticized him. One user wrote, ‘If singing two lines can bring a smile on someone’s face, then what is the harm in it? This is a good thing. Another person commented, ‘If any big director, film producer, rich businessman or any star asked him to sing at a wedding or party, he would not have given such a reply. Then they immediately start singing.
