Karan Johar Unfollows Bunch Of Celebrities Including Shah Rukh, Alia Bhatt; Priyanka Chopra An Exception

Mumbai: Karan Johar has found himself at the centre of online chatter after eagle-eyed social media users noticed that he unfollowed several celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt, but not Priyanka Chopra.

Reacting to the buzz, Karan dismissed the frenzy, saying such things should not be treated as ‘national news’.

“It’s a DIGITAL DETOX!!!! Am unfollowing everyone to reduce my time and energy spent on the gram!!! This can’t be national news for god’s sake… please clickbait something else! This is irrelevant,” Karan wrote.

Interestingly, Karan celebrated his 54th birthday on May 25, and a few days later, Manish Malhotra hosted a grand bash in his honour.

The celebration saw several prominent names in attendance, including Alia, Ranbir Kapoor, Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Zoya Akhtar, Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra.

Manish also penned a heartfelt note on social media to wish Karan on his special day.

Sharing pictures from Karan’s debut Met Gala appearance, Manish wrote: “This video is about the showstopper appearance of Karan at The Met Gala 2026, but it also shows our friendship and our comfort working together for 30 years—many super-hit films, many meals and travels together, and discussions of films and life and all the most important red-carpet appearances. We have been candid and honest with each other. Happy birthday, dearest @karanjohar. I cherish our friendship, and we celebrate it every day. Lots and lots of love to you, and I wish you only the best.”

On the work front, Karan made his directorial comeback with ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, featuring Alia and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles, in 2023.

Last week, Ananya Panday and Lakshya’s ‘Chand Mera Dil’, produced by Dharma Productions, was released in theatres.
