Kia India has beaten Toyota to emerge as India’s fifth-largest carmaker in October 2026, thanks to its highest-ever monthly sales since entering the Indian market. Kia dispatched 33,462 vehicles during the month, registering a 13.22% year-on-year growth. Toyota Kirloskar Motor, meanwhile, reported total sales of 30,360 units, including 29,521 units in the domestic market and 839 exports.
The difference between the two manufacturers stood at 3,102 units in October. This is an important development for Kia, which has managed to move ahead of Toyota in the monthly sales rankings after overtaking the Japanese manufacturer a couple of months ago. Kia has now strengthened its position with two consecutive months of record-breaking sales.
Kia’s October performance also marks its second consecutive monthly sales record. It had dispatched 32,017 units in September before improving that figure to 33,462 units in October. Its cumulative sales for January to October 2026 have reached 2,86,470 units, already exceeding its entire 2025 sales of 2,80,286 units.

The Seltos and Sonet continue to be Kia’s biggest volume drivers. The Seltos alone recorded over 13,000 units in October, maintaining an average monthly sales figure of more than 10,000 units since its launch in January 2026.

The Carens and Carens Clavis range has also contributed to the company’s performance. Kia says their CNG variants accounted for close to 10% of its October sales. The company also registered its highest-ever monthly EV sales, growing 31% month-on-month, with contributions from the Syros EV and Carens Clavis EV.

Kia’s biggest launch of the year has been the new Sorento, which has expanded the company’s presence in the premium SUV segment. The three-row SUV is offered with hybrid and diesel powertrain options, giving buyers a choice between conventional diesel power and electrified performance.
The company says the Sorento has received an encouraging response from customers, particularly for its technology, sophisticated features and the fuel efficiency offered by its hybrid powertrain. Kia has not disclosed separate booking figures or monthly sales numbers for the Sorento, so its precise contribution to October volumes remains unclear.
However, the encouraging response is significant because the Sorento operates in a more premium segment than Kia’s established volume sellers.

Toyota, meanwhile, has an important product update lined up. The company is set to launch the facelifted Innova Hycross on November 25, 2026. The popular MPV is expected to receive styling updates and feature enhancements, which could help revive customer interest.
The Innova Hycross is one of Toyota’s most important products in India, particularly in the premium MPV space. A facelift could provide the model with fresh momentum during the festive and wedding seasons, potentially helping Toyota improve its monthly volumes.
Toyota recorded cumulative sales of 3,25,274 units between January and October 2026, including exports, registering 3% growth over the same period last year. Its domestic sales during this period grew by 4%.
The Innova Hycross facelift could therefore be crucial for Toyota as it looks to regain the fifth position from Kia. With the Seltos, Sonet and Sorento keeping Kia’s momentum strong, however, Toyota will need more than a routine update to close the gap.
