Kia Seltos Vs Tata Sierra Vs Renault Duster Vs Maruti Victoris: Newly Launched Mid-Size SUV Sales Report Card
The mid-size SUV space has lately been witnessing a lot of action. In the past few months, we have come across the launch of multiple new models from various manufacturers. The new Tata Sierra, third-generation Renault Duster and the second-generation Kia Seltos, all recent launches, have been selling well. The Sierra sold 7316 units in April, while the new Seltos, and Duster posted sales of 10566 units and 2359 units respectively. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris, another new player in this space sold 13701 units last month- significantly more than the other three SUVs.
Let’s start with the new Tata Sierra. In April this year, Tata Motors posted sales of 7316 units of the Sierra. This is in fact, 18.7% less than march numbers which had stood at 9003 units. 7100 Sierras were sold in February.
In January, wholesales of 7003 units of the SUV were registered. Tata Motors had launched the new Sierra in December last year and wholesale dispatches began soon after. However, January was the first full month of deliveries for this model. In general, Sierra sales seem to hover around the 7000 units mark. Last month’s spike in sales was largely driven by the market trends then.

The new Sierra has generated massive interest among mid-size SUV aspirants. It has already generated over a lakh of bookings, the larger portion of which are yet to be delivered. Tata appears to be slowly ramping up production and debottlenecking its supplier ecosystem to cater to the high demand.
The Sierra is manufactured at the company’s Sanand plant which also produces the Nexon. It is available in seven broad trims and with three engine options- 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5L diesel and 1.5L direct injection turbocharged petrol.

10566 units of the new Seltos were sold last month. In March, it sold 11041 units of the Seltos, marking a month-on-month decline of 4.3% in April. Kia launched the second-generation Seltos in India in January this year. Deliveries began soon after the launch.
Right in the first month, it sold 10,639 units- a massive increase of 6,270 units over the December 2025 numbers. In February, 10308 units of the Seltos were sold. Built on the third-generation K3 platform, the new Seltos is available with the same engine options as the model it replaced- 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5 turbocharged diesel and 1.5 turbocharged petrol.
Interestingly, the Seltos has been consistently outselling the Sierra all these months. The reason for this, we believe, is the production constraints of the Sierra. In the initial phase, Tata Motors is known to produce just around 8000 Sierras a month (96,000 units annually).

Wholesale dispatches of the Duster appear to have begun in March. The actual customer deliveries began in April. Renault commenced deliveries of 2359 units of the new Duster last month. This mid-size SUV went on sale in March and is available with two petrol engines- 1.0L turbocharged petrol and 1.3 turbo-petrol engine.
The new Duster has generated immense interest in the Indian market. In April, the company registered a year-on-year growth of 108 percent, thanks to the Duster! Total sales stood at 5,413 units. In April last year, the number was much smaller- 2,602 units.

Maruti Suzuki launched the Victoris in September 2025. It isn’t thus a ‘brand-new’ car in the strict sense. In October 2025, it sold 13,496 units. In November and December, the numbers stood at 12,300 and 6,210 units respectively.
In January 2026, Maruti Suzuki recorded sales of 15240 units of this SUV, while in February and March, it sold 13021 and 11062 units respectively. Last month, it sold 13701. Clearly, the Victoris is a sizable success. It has been averaging 14100 units a month and is available with the same powertrains as the Grand Vitara- 1.5L mild hybrid petrol, 1.5L strong hybrid petrol and CNG with underbody tank.
