Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday targeted Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and appealed to him to devote some time of his speech to discussing the actual merits and provisions of the Anti-Paper Leak Bill.
Parliament Monsoon Session 2026: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has raised questions on the attitude of the Congress and the Opposition during the discussion on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill in the Lok Sabha. He accused Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of giving priority to political issues instead of discussing the important bill.
Rijiju said that the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 has been brought with the aim of meeting the demands of students and ensuring transparency in competitive examinations. He appealed to the opposition to move away from political allegations and have a meaningful discussion on the provisions and effects of the bill.
Rijiju said- Rahul Gandhi should also talk about the merits of the bill.
Speaking to reporters, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that during the discussion on the bill in Parliament, opposition leaders did not pay enough attention to its real issues. He said that this law brought by the government has been prepared with the aim of preventing irregularities in competitive examinations and protecting the interests of students. All parties should give their suggestions on such important legislation.
Rijiju said Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders should focus some of their speech on the provisions and reforms of the bill. He said, “Such an important bill is being discussed, but many opposition members are raising other political issues instead of talking about the issues related to it.”
Congress accused of doing politics
The Union minister accused the Congress of giving priority to criticizing the government instead of discussing the shortcomings or reforms of the bill. He said that if the opposition has any suggestions to improve the examination system, the government will welcome them. He appealed to the opposition that Parliament should be made a platform for policy discussion instead of political rhetoric. Rijiju said that this bill is an important step in the interest of students to bring transparency in the examination system and will increase confidence among the youth.
Priyanka Gandhi also targeted
Rijiju also mentioned Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and said that many opposition leaders raised issues which were beyond the scope of this bill. He said that the purpose of discussion in Parliament is to consider the positive and negative aspects of any law, but the opposition tried to divert attention from the main topic.
Kiren Rijiju also expressed displeasure over Rahul Gandhi’s statements. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi sometimes uses language which is not in keeping with the dignity of parliamentary democracy. Rijiju said that political differences are part of democracy, but leaders should use dignified and respectful language in public forums.
Discussion on the bill continues in Lok Sabha
Discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 is going on in the Lok Sabha during the monsoon session of Parliament. According to the agenda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to introduce the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026 on Wednesday. Apart from this, the process of further consideration and passing of the bill to prevent irregularities in examinations will also continue.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh proposed that this Bill relating to prevention of cheating and unfair practices in public examinations be further discussed and passed.
