KKR vs RR: Kolkata’s first win after 5 defeats, beat Rajasthan by 4 wickets

The 28th match of IPL 2026 was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). This match took place on 19 April at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The match may have been low-scoring but it was full of thrill. The trend of the match seemed to be changing with every over, due to which the interest of the fans remained till the end. In the end, Kolkata won and registered its first win this season after 5 consecutive defeats. Kolkata made a great comeback by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets.

 

KKR has slightly improved its position in the points table after registering its first win in IPL 2026. Earlier the team was at the bottom 10th position, however now they have reached 9th position. Of its 7 matches, Kolkata has won 1 match, lost 5 and there was no result in one match. Kolkata’s net run rate is -0.879. Whereas Rajasthan is at third place in the points table with 4 wins and 2 losses in 6 matches and its net run rate is +0.599.

Rajasthan Royals innings

Rajasthan Royals, who came to bat first after winning the toss, had a good start but later the decision went completely in favor of KKR. In the powerplay, the team scored 63 runs without losing any wicket. However, after this, Kolkata bowlers made a strong comeback in the middle overs. Between 7 and 15 overs, Rajasthan lost 4 wickets and could score only 55 runs. Rajasthan could not do anything special even in the death overs. Between 16 and 20 overs, 5 wickets fell and only 37 runs could be added. In the end, Rajasthan Royals could score only 155 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored the highest score of 46 runs for Rajasthan Royals. Apart from him, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 39 runs but no other batsman could cross the 15-run mark. Kolkata’s bowling was very strong. Karthik Tyagi and Varun Chakraborty took 3 wickets each, while Sunil Narine got 2 wickets. On the other hand, Rajasthan’s Joffra Archer was run out and returned to the pavilion.

Kolkata innings

KKR’s bowling was good but the team’s top order failed once again. Kolkata lost 3 wickets in the powerplay itself and could score only 51 runs. After this, the batting in the middle overs was also nothing special. Between 7 and 15 overs, the team lost 3 wickets and added only 46 runs. However, in the end Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy saved the honor of the team. Both of them batted brilliantly in the death overs and added 45 runs without losing any wicket between 16 and 20 overs. Ultimately, KKR scored 161 runs losing 6 wickets in 19.4 overs and won the match by 4 wickets with 2 balls remaining.

Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy batted brilliantly for KKR and added 76 runs in just 37 balls for the 7th wicket. This brilliant partnership led the team to victory. Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on 53 runs, while Anukul Roy also played an unbeaten inning of 29 runs. Whereas for Rajasthan, Ravindra Jadeja took 2 wickets. Apart from them, Joffra Archer, Nandre Berger, Ravi Bishnoi and Yashraj Punja got 1 wicket each.
