We will implement reservation for women, no power can stop us: Rajnath Singh

Vasudevanallur (Tamil Nadu): Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday criticized the Congress and the DMK over the Parliament not passing the amendment bill related to the Women’s Reservation Act, saying the government is determined to implement it and “no power in the world can stop us from doing so.” Addressing an election rally in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ananthan Ayyasamy from Vasudevanallur for the April 23 assembly elections in Tenkasi district, he raised the issue of corruption. He launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK and urged people to say “goodbye” to it in the elections.

The senior BJP leader said, “A bill was brought in Parliament regarding ensuring 33 percent reservation for our mothers and sisters in Parliament, Assemblies and Legislative Councils. DMK, Congress, Trinamool Congress and Left parties did not allow it to be passed. Nevertheless, I want to assure on the basis of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve that we will definitely give 33 percent reservation for women and no power in the world can stop us.” The BJP-led central government suffered a major setback as the Constitution Amendment Bill, aimed at implementing 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies from 2029 and increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats to 816, was rejected on Friday. Taking a dig at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (Drumak) over corruption, Singh said some ministers in Tamil Nadu are under the radar of central investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the “TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited) scam” is an example of how “deep-rooted” corruption is in the state. Supporting the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state, he said, “The DMK government is playing with the lives of the poor.

Allegations of corruption have become common in the DMK government. Now is the time to raise voice against this corruption and bid farewell to the ruling party.” People of Tamil Nadu are known for their faith and anyone who tries to make fun of Sanatana Dharma will “fall in the eyes of the public.” Referring to the controversy over lighting of lamps at Tirupparankundram, he alleged that despite a court order, the DMK government has allowed devotees to light lamps on the pillars (Deepathoons) there. Not allowed to ignite. Singh said that if the NDA comes to power, the tradition of lighting the lamp will be allowed to continue and this is a guarantee of the NDA. Singh claimed that Tamil Nadu has a debt of Rs 11 lakh crore. He alleged that this money is not being used for public welfare and is “going into the pockets of DMK leaders.” He also rejected DMK’s allegations of “discrimination” by the Central government against Tamil Nadu, saying that Prime Minister Modi has given Rs 11 lakh crore so far. Stepping up his attack on the ruling party, he said DMK in Tamil means “Dushprayogam (abuse of power), Muraikedu (irregularities), Kutram (crime). On the other hand, NDA means “Nalan, Nyayam (welfare, justice), development and Amaithi (peace).” Continuing his attack against the DMK, at a road show in Radhapuram in Tirunelveli district, Singh said Alleged “Rs 5,000 crore landmining scam” and kidney racket involving DMK MLA He said that Prime Minister Modi has an “emotional attachment” to Tamil Nadu and is making every possible effort for the development of the state.
