Major temples including Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple were decorated attractively. At midnight, at the time of the birth of Lord Shri Krishna, special puja and aarti took place, in which a large number of devotees participated.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, religious rituals continued throughout the day in temples. Devotees observed fast and worshiped Lord Krishna. Attractive swings were also decorated for Kanha in homes. Bal Gopal was decorated and made to swing. Bhajan-kirtan, raslila and cultural programs were organized at many places.

Different shades of enthusiasm and devotion were seen in different states of the country regarding Janmashtami. Attractive tableaux of Lord Shri Krishna were decorated with grand decorations in the temples. Devotees reached the temples with puja thali in their hands and were seen waiting for the birth of the Lord.

According to religious belief, Lord Shri Krishna was born at midnight in Rohini Nakshatra on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. For this reason, a special celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated on the night of Janmashtami. After birth, the Lord is anointed with Panchamrit and adorned with new clothes and jewellery.
