Kuldeep didn’t play in any of the ten limited-overs matches played during the recent tour of Ireland and England. The tour ended with the final ODI at Lord’s last Sunday.
Kuldeep said in a statement, “I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of playing in English conditions, and after speaking with the management, I was very excited to join the team. I’m looking forward to making a positive contribution during my time at Headingley.”
Kuldeep has toured England with the Indian team three times so far, and has only had the opportunity to play one match in the country. A one-off Test at Lord’s in 2018, he only bowled nine overs in that match.
He last played a single Test against Afghanistan in June, and overall, he has taken 79 wickets in 18 Tests at an average of 22.35. His ODI performance has been even more impressive, with 194 wickets in 121 matches, with his best performance being 6 for 25. He has also been part of two T20 World Cup-winning teams.
Kuldeep is the second active Indian spinner playing in the Championship this season. Spinner Manav Suthar is representing Warwickshire.
