New Delhi: President Donald Trump has claimed to start a big campaign regarding the voter list in America. The Trump administration is combining 2020 voter records with citizenship records. According to Trump, initial investigation has revealed records of thousands of people who have been declared non-citizens. After this, the debate regarding the accuracy of the voter list and electoral transparency has intensified in America.
12.8 crore records were investigated
Trump claimed on his social media platform Truth that a preliminary analysis of the records of about 128 million voters has been done. According to him, this investigation has revealed information about more than 24 thousand non-citizens casting their votes.
Trump says that about 3.2 crore records still remain to be investigated. He claims that this number may increase further after the analysis of the remaining records is completed. On this basis, he has expressed the need to make election rules more stringent.
Names of people from which countries came forward?
According to data released by the White House, people born in Mexico are reported to have the highest number of so-called non-citizen voters. After this, people from countries like Canada, Philippines, Jamaica, Germany, Britain, Cuba, Vietnam, Haiti and South Korea have been mentioned.
However, questions are also being raised in America regarding these claims. Critics say that not enough evidence has been put forward publicly to prove claims of large-scale non-citizen voting.
Emphasis on ‘Save America Act’
Trump has once again demanded implementation of the ‘Save America Act’. The proposed law calls for proof of citizenship and photo ID to be required to vote in federal elections. There is also a proposal to strengthen the process of removing names of non-citizens from the voter list.
Have praised India’s model
Trump has also earlier praised India’s voter identification system. He had described the widespread use of photo identity cards in India as an example for the American election system. For this reason, this initiative started in America has become a subject of comparison with the voter list verification campaigns running in India.
