Liverpool kept a 23-year-old record in tact after the Reds drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League 2026-27 at Anfield on Saturday.
The Merseyside-based outfit’s unblemished record of not losing its first home game of a Premier League season was in jeopardy before Victor Munoz saved the side’s blushes.
It was Dan Ndoye who opened the scoring for the visiting side before Alexander Isak struck an equaliser in the second half. Morgan Gibbs-White converted from the penalty spot and briefly threatened to end Liverpool’s long-time home record. However, Munoz found the back of the net to maintain the streak.
The last time it tasted defeat in its first home game of a season was when it lost 1-2 to Chelsea on August 17, 2003, during the 2003-04 season.
New manager Andoni Iraola has had a mixed start to his first Premier League campaign in Liverpool colours. The Reds opened their 2026-27 season with a 2-2 draw away at Newcastle United.
