Lucknow Fire Tragedy: 1200 huts burnt to ashes, cylinders burst like firecrackers, 22 fire engines were used to extinguish the fire.
Lucknow. A massive fire broke out in Vikas Nagar area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday evening (Lucknow Fire Tragedy). According to the information received so far, there has been no loss of life.

A fire broke out in an illegal settlement along the Ring Road in Vikasnagar Sector-12 of Lucknow on Wednesday evening. Within no time the fire engulfed 1200 huts. Around 100 gas cylinders kept in the huts also exploded. The fire caused panic in the entire area. People started running away from the huts built in the colony to save their lives. 22 fire engines together started the work of extinguishing the fire which continued till 10 pm. There is information that around 50 cattle were burnt alive in the fire, but this was not confirmed. Some children are also missing. Police and administration are running a search operation in the colony. People allege that the police and fire brigade did not reach on time and the fire took a huge form. The angry people had heated arguments and scuffles with the police and administration officials.
For years, people were living in huts on three bighas of vacant land at some distance from the mini stadium located in Vikasnagar Sector-12. Like everyday, everything was normal on Tuesday. Suddenly a fire broke out in a mosque-like hut around five in the evening. As soon as the people there saw the fire, they tried to extinguish it but failed. It is alleged that a call was made to the police control room for help, but the call was not received. After some time a call was made and information was given. People present at the spot allege that police and fire engines arrived within an hour of receiving the information. Due to the delay the fire had become huge. One after another the huts started burning.
People made noise and ran to save their lives, a stampede broke out.
Seeing the fire in the colony, there was chaos in the entire area. The people present there started running here and there screaming to save their lives. A stampede-like situation arose on the road. Nearby shops were closed. The traffic also stopped. Police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot, saw the terrible form of fire and informed the authorities about it. Within no time, senior police and administration officials and 22 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot.

100 gas cylinders burnt one after the other, 50 cattle burnt
Due to the fire in the colony, the gas cylinders kept in the huts started burning one after the other. The entire area was shaken by the explosion of gas cylinders. People living in the colony say that two cows and about 50 goats were burnt alive in the fire. At present, the police and administration have not confirmed the burning of cattle.
30 nearby houses were evacuated
Seeing the dire nature of the fire, the police and administration evacuated 30 houses built around the settlement. After receiving the news of the fire, DG Fire Sujit Pandey, Police Commissioner Amarendra Kumar Sengar, District Magistrate V. Visakh along with forces from several police stations, SDRF and a team of doctors were called to the spot. By 10 pm, fire brigade personnel had somehow controlled the fire to some extent.
Smoke was visible for five kilometers, traffic also stopped

The fire in the colony was so terrible that the flames and smoke were visible up to five kilometers away. Traffic going towards the Ring Road was also affected for several hours due to the fire. There was traffic jam in Khurramnagar, Vikasnagar, Mini Stadium and Ring Road areas. Later the police somehow normalized the traffic.
Chief Minister Yogi took cognizance of fire incident in Lucknow
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken immediate cognizance of the massive fire that broke out in Vikasnagar police station area of Lucknow. Considering the seriousness of the incident, he has instructed the concerned officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister has given clear instructions that all possible assistance should be provided to the affected people and no carelessness should be taken in relief work. He has also instructed the officials to make full use of all resources and constantly monitor the situation.
High level investigation will be conducted: Deputy CM
On receiving information about the fire, Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak also reached the spot. The Deputy Chief Minister said that a high level investigation will be conducted into this incident. The government stands with the victims’ families in every situation. He called the health department teams on the spot and directed to provide better treatment to the people injured in the incident. He also held detailed talks with the District Magistrate, Police Commissioner, Chief Development Officer, Municipal Commissioner, SDRF and other officials regarding the rescue operations in this incident and ordered for accommodation and food arrangements for the victim’s families.

DM Visakh ji said that after receiving information about the incident, he inspected the spot. The actual cause of the fire has not been known yet. Therefore, its investigation has been handed over to the Chief Fire Officer. The victims were collected in a nearby park by the police, municipal corporation and administration team that reached the spot. Their number is around 250. They are being shifted to the night shelter camp of the Municipal Corporation. Police administration and revenue department teams have been deployed to help the victims. At present there is no information about any casualty. Further action will be taken after receiving the report of the Chief Fire Officer.
