Patiala- The two-day Inter-College Basketball Championship (Men and Women) organized by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala concluded with great sportsmanship and excellent performances. 12 teams from various constituted and affiliated colleges of the university participated enthusiastically in this championship organized from 17 to 18 September 2026.
Considering the enthusiasm accumulated among the players due to the competition not being organized last year, this time the university organized the matches in league-cum-knockout format. The objective was to give each team ample opportunity to take the field and showcase their talent.
In women's category, Prof. Gursevak Singh Government Physical Education College (PGSGCPE), Patiala won the overall championship by securing first position. Host Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU) secured the second position. Khalsa College of Physical Education (KCPE), Amritsar stood third, while The Royal College of Physical Education (RCPE), Mansa secured the fourth position.
In the men's category, Mata Gurdev Kaur Memorial Shahi Sports College of Physical Education, Samrala won the title of champion by securing first position. The team of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University stood second. Pro. Gursevak Singh Government Physical Education College, Patiala (PGSGCPE) stood third, while Government Arts and Sports College (GASC), Jalandhar stood fourth.
Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill heartily congratulated the winning teams and appreciated all the players who displayed sportsmanship and dedication during the championship. He said that such platforms play an important role in identifying talented players to represent the university in high level competitions. Sports Director Dr. Amarpreet Singh said that the league-cum-knockout format successfully served the objective of providing the teams with the necessary match practice and competitive experience.
The smooth conduct of the tournament was supervised by Sports Officer Dr. Sonia. All the teachers including yoga instructors Jagdev Singh, Parminder Singh and Manveer Singh made special contributions in the event. Players, coaches and officials were very excited about this championship successfully organized by Punjab Sports University.
