Early in the second half of the final second leg at My Dinh Stadium on Wednesday night, Khamyok missed an important penalty. His shot sailed high over the crossbar, leaving the Thailand players clutching their heads in dismay.
This denied Thailand the opportunity to go 2-0 up on the night and level the aggregate score.
The stands at My Dinh erupted with cheers from relieved Vietnamese fans.
Cameras quickly captured the emotions of Madam Pang, who was watching from the stands. The FAT president was seen smiling immediately after seeing Khamyok miss a opportunity, and her expression quickly went viral.
After the match ended, Madam Pang wrote on social media: “Thank you to all the players. Thank you to all the clubs. Thank you to football fans for all the support. Thank you to everyone.”
Thailand were leading 1-0 when they were awarded the penalty as Vietnam defender Pham Xuan Manh made contact from behind to stop Khamyok, taking him down inside the box.
Just four minutes after Khamyok’s miss, Phan Tuan Tai delivered a cross from the left flank into the box. Do Hoang Hen rushed in to finish with his left foot. The ball struck the post, deflected off Thailand goalkeeper Chatchai Budprom and rolled into the net, earning Vietnam an equalizer.

This equalizer allowed Vietnam to re-establish a two-goal aggregate lead in the final. They beat Thailand 2-0 in the first leg on Aug. 22.
The Wednesday match ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw, after Thailand scored two more, including an own goal. This resulted in a 4-2 aggregate victory for Vietnam, marking the very first time the team have successfully defended the ASEAN Cup title, and the fourth time they have been crowned champions of Southeast Asia’s premier tournament, following their previous triumphs in 2008, 2018 and 2024.
Madam Pang, whose real name is Nualphan Lamsam, was born in 1966 and is a fifth-generation member of the Lamsam family, one of Thailand’s wealthiest.
She is the first woman in both Thailand and Asia to serve as the president of a national football association. She previously held the role of the Thailand national football team leader from August 2021 to January 2024.
