Tezzbuzz Desk- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. During this, he said that now the production of semiconductor chips has started in India and the chips made in the country are reaching the customers of the world. He appealed to the Indian youth doing research abroad to get involved in advanced technology and research and development in the country.
PM Modi said that commercial production has started in two semiconductor plants in Mohali and Surat. He said it takes decades to develop expertise and technical capability in the semiconductor sector. India is continuously strengthening its capacity in this direction. The Prime Minister also mentioned the need for AI data centers and increasing computing power. He said that with the expansion of AI, the demand for electricity will increase, hence investment in the power sector is necessary. The government is working on providing adequate power in areas where semiconductor plants are being set up.
He said that the growth of fabless companies, intellectual property and manufacturing of compound semiconductors is being promoted in India. The necessary foundation for silicon photonics and AI infrastructure has also been prepared. According to PM Modi, the government aims to train one lakh engineering students for the semiconductor industry. Out of these, 70 thousand youth have been given training.
He said that India is preparing itself as a reliable option for manufacturing. In his address, the Prime Minister also mentioned the Global Fintech Fest, Dedicated Freight Corridor and the country's 7.8 percent GDP growth. While wishing Vishwakarma Jayanti, he said that India's traditional manufacturing capacity and modern technology together are strengthening the foundation of self-reliant India.
