New Delhi: The capital Delhi is at the center of global diplomacy these days. Prominent leaders and representatives of the world's emerging economies are coming together at the 18th BRICS Summit being hosted by India at the Bharat Mandapam on 12th and 13th September. India is chairing BRICS this year and the theme of the summit has been 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainable Development'.
Many important bilateral meetings also discussed
Many important bilateral meetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are also in discussion during the conference. The Prime Minister met Russian President Vladimir Putin and reviewed cooperation between the two countries in trade, energy, defence, space, critical minerals and other sectors. The two leaders also discussed the challenges posed by conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region. The Prime Minister made it clear that the way to resolve conflicts should be found only through dialogue and diplomacy.
Xi Jinping reached India after seven years
At the same time, the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping in Delhi was also included in the biggest diplomatic events of the conference. A cultural glimpse of India was also visible during the welcome of Xi Jinping, who arrived in India after seven years. President Masood Pejeshkian also attended the conference
Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian is also attending the conference. There were talks between Prime Minister Modi and Pejeshkian on the situation in West Asia, regional peace and stability. Both sides stressed the need to resolve conflicts through diplomatic means.
In this context, the arrival of Bahrain's Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zaini to Delhi is very important from the point of view of India-Gulf relations. The presence of the Foreign Minister of Bahrain, who currently chairs the Gulf Cooperation Council, at the BRICS summit is expected to further strengthen trade, energy, investment, maritime security and regional cooperation between India and the Gulf countries.
Global peace and security were among the biggest issues amid the conference. BRICS countries expressed serious concern over the increasing conflict in West Asia and called for maximum restraint, dialogue and diplomacy. Member states also approved a joint declaration expressing concern over unilateral military action and unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures impacting global trade.
Emphasis on strengthening the voice of the global south
Prime Minister Modi also stressed on reforming global institutions, increasing participation of developing countries and strengthening the voice of the Global South. In his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, topics such as UN Security Council reform, multipolar world order, maritime security, sustainable development, human-centred artificial intelligence and food security were discussed.
Meanwhile, various programs related to the conference and India Innovation Exhibition also added attraction in Bharat Mandapam. Joint tree planting program was also part of the programs proposed during the conference to convey the message of environment and sustainable development.
