New Delhi:To combat tax evasion, the Delhi government has now tightened surveillance on roads as well as railway tracks. Delhi GST Department along with Railway officials have seized goods worth about Rs 5 crore at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. This consignment includes about 50 tonnes of various items including about 25 tonnes of copper scrap.
Investigation campaign conducted on information
The GST department had received information that a large quantity of goods were being brought to Delhi through Railways without necessary bills and e-way bills. As soon as the information was received, the department team along with the railway officials conducted an investigation operation at the station and seized the suspicious consignment.
50 tonnes of goods including copper scrap recovered
During investigation, about 25 tonnes of copper scrap was found, the estimated value of which was estimated to be around Rs 3 crore. Apart from this, about 25 tonnes of mixed junk, clothes and other items were also recovered, the value of which is estimated to be around Rs 2 crore. It was told that this consignment had reached Hazrat Nizamuddin station from Renigunta in Andhra Pradesh. When mandatory documents were not found along with the goods, the department took possession of the goods and started a detailed investigation.
Government's strong message on tax evasion
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government will not tolerate tax evasion and loss of revenue at any cost. All modes of transportation of goods including railways will be monitored and strengthened. Strict action will continue as per law against those who violate the rules.
