A tragic accident occurred during a military exercise at Hathazari Field Firing Range in Chattogram, Bangladesh. During the live firing drill, there was a sudden massive explosion inside the Chinese-made 'Type 59' main battle tank. In this accident, two soldiers of Bangladesh Army died on the spot, while a senior officer was seriously injured.
Let us tell you, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) of Bangladesh Army and local media reports, the explosion was so fierce that the soldiers present inside the tank did not even get a chance to recover. The seriously injured officer was immediately airlifted and admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. ISPR said that a high-level process has been started to investigate the exact cause of the blast.
It is noteworthy that 'Type 59' is an old tank model manufactured by China, which was upgraded by Bangladesh Army with Chinese assistance to 'Type 59G Durjoy' standard. After this accident, questions have once again started being raised about the quality of Chinese military equipment, old technology and safety standards of maintenance during exercises.
