Major accident in Balochistan, Pakistan, 40 killed as passenger bus falls into ditch
At least 40 passengers were killed and eight others were injured when a passenger bus fell into a deep gorge in Sherani district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Friday. Provincial government officials have confirmed this horrific accident.
Death toll increased while being taken to hospital and during treatment
Giving information, Assistant to the Chief Minister of Balochistan for Political and Media Shahid Rind said that many seriously injured passengers died while being taken to the hospital and during treatment, due to which the death toll increased to 40.
Accident happened on Zhob-Sherani highway
Earlier, District Deputy Commissioner Hazrat Wali Kakar said that the accident occurred on the Zhob-Sherani Highway in Dhana Sar area of Sherani. The place is located near the border of Sherani district of Balochistan and Dera Ismail Khan district of north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Due to inaccessible area, rescue took two hours.
As soon as information about the accident was received, police and rescue teams from both the districts immediately reached the spot. The team evacuated the bodies and injured, including women and children, to nearby hospitals. According to a rescue official, the accident took place in mountainous and extremely inaccessible terrain, taking more than two hours for rescue teams to reach the spot.
The driver lost control at the turn
According to local police, at the time of the accident the bus was going from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, towards Peshawar district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, at a turn in the mountainous area, the driver lost control over the bus and the bus fell into a ditch. The Deputy Commissioner said that the bus had left from Quetta with 36 passengers, but many more passengers were also boarded on the way.
