Big decision of Rekha Gupta government: ₹ 441.1 crore scheme for slums, 1,510 development works approved

Under this scheme, a total of 1,510 development projects have been approved in the next two financial years through the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board. The objective of these projects is to improve sanitation, drinking water, roads, sewers, drainage and community facilities in slums, so as to improve the quality of life of the people living there.

According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, a total of 1,510 development and construction works have been approved during the years 2025-26 and 2026-27. According to government information, 1,253 projects were approved at a cost of ₹379.8 crore in the year 2025-26, while 257 new projects have been approved at a cost of ₹61.3 crore in the current financial year 2026-27. In this way, a total investment of ₹ 441.1 crore will be made in the development of basic facilities in slums in both the years.

Big campaign for development of basic facilities in slums

The scheme includes construction and renovation of community toilets and public utility complexes. Along with this, works like upgrading of community buildings, improvement in drinking water and sewer system will also be done. Apart from this, work will also be done on construction of new internal roads and streets, repair of drains, strengthening of street lights and improving the rain water drainage system. Under the scheme, boundary walls and entrance gates will be constructed and public places will also be beautified, so that the overall development of settlements can take place.

Priority for development works in slumsExpansion of Atal Canteen

Development works in the slums of Delhi will now be taken forward rapidly and for this many areas have been included in the priority list. According to the government plan, development work will be done in the slums of areas like Narela, Timarpur, Adarsh ​​Nagar, Jahangirpuri, Azadpur, Bawana, Rohini, Seemapuri, Trilokpuri, Shahdara, Karawal Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Dwarka and Najafgarh in the first phase.

Special attention will be given to strengthening roads, water, sewer, sanitation and other basic facilities in these areas. Along with this, the government has also announced the expansion of Atal Canteen Yojana in various assembly constituencies, so that nutritious food can be provided at affordable rates to the economically weaker families living in slums and nearby areas. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that the government’s aim is not only to develop infrastructure but also to make these settlements cleaner, safer and livable.

The government says the objective is to ensure that residents of these settlements have all the necessary facilities available to them like other citizens of the city. In this direction, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board will pursue projects related to cleanliness, safety and public welfare at a fast pace in the coming times. Under the scheme, construction and renovation of community toilets and public convenience complexes, construction of community buildings, strengthening of drinking water and sewer systems and development of streets and internal roads will be done. Apart from this, repair of drains, expansion of street lights and electricity network, improvement of rain water drainage system, beautification of public places and other civic amenities will also be provided. The government has also said that canteens are being set up near the slums under the Atal Canteen Yojana, so that the economically weaker people can get food at affordable rates.
